Role within Organization: Providing training to tax preparer who in turn prepare tax returns at no cost to military personnel and their families.

Why do you volunteer your time specifically with this organization?
Military people have historically been taken advantage of by suspect tax preparer companies that set up shop right outside the base. We have been in constant war for a long time and a lot of them are overseas, so we want to help their families out since their heads of household are overseas. As someone who was in active duty during the first Gulf War, I feel a responsibility to give back to the military community.
Does this organization affect our community as a whole?
Hundreds of military families are helped by this program. They save on tax preparation fees, and their returns are done correctly. These heroic families have enough stress already, and reducing the tax filing burden is a benefit they deserve.
What is your favorite memory of working with this organization?
I’m not sure if I have a favorite memory. However, each year working with these young men and women in the military it gives me hope for our country. They are polite, alert, mentally strong, and have a true purpose in their lives.
